Carousel supports students with enterprise business

We are delighted to announce that an enterprise business group Carousel has been supporting has qualified for the Young Enterprise National Finals.

‘UMakit’ comprises a group of Economics students studying at the Beechgrove Academy in Nonington Kent. The group has already completed three rounds of the competition, run by Young Enterprise – the UK’s leading charity for empowering young people to harness their people and business schools. UMakit will now compete against 12 others in London on 5 July, for the opportunity to represent the UK in Brussels later this year.

Our client Community Playthings, is a global leader in manufacturing high-quality furniture and play equipment for primary schools and early years settings. During our time working together, Carousel has supported Community’s Beechgrove Academy, this year running an interactive workshop for UMakit students looking at how to set-up a business and how to use PR and Marketing to launch and sell a product effectively. It’s just one example of how Carousel looks to do everything ‘&More’ to support its clients.

About UMakit

As part of the enterprise project, UMakit team has developed two products to make and sell which include a Multi-Vehicle Kit and Pom Pom Animals Kit. The Multi-Vehicle Kit is hand-made with sustainably sourced Scandinavian Redwood and gives children the opportunity to build a number of vehicles using carefully designed blocks. The Pom Pom Animals Kit allows children to transform a ball of yarn into a cute, fuzzy creature of their choice.

Having had tremendous success in the competition, UMakit has already been awarded the Best Young Enterprise Company in North East Kent, the prestigious Young Enterprise South East Company of the Year Award, PLUS the Young Enterprise Awards for Most Innovative Product AND Best Company Report at the Kent & Medway Finals. At each stage, students have impressed the judges with their creative toy designs which each respond to calls for children to spend less time on electronic devices, with toys that encourage them to learn while they play.

Commenting on the project, Carousel CFO Edward Weir who ran the student workshop earlier this year, said: “We’re delighted to see the students have so much success in the Young Enterprise competition. Not only have they developed two great products, their enthusiasm, creativeness and acute business acumen has been really impressive. We’re so proud to have played a very small part in supporting them this year and wish them the best of luck for the finals next month.”
