Time-critical project transport for The German Aerospace Center

We are delighted to announce another successful project transport movement on behalf of specialist European research facility, The German Aerospace Centre (DLR).

Earlier this year, Carousel transported DLR’s life-science-satellite – via a temperature-controlled box – from Bremen to Los Angeles, US. As a specialist project, this item required specialist handling – with the entire shipment secured as per IATA regulations in the clean room at the DLR.

Upon arrival in the US, the satellite was then sent into space in December with a Falcon 9 Rocket from SpaceX. The Eu:CROPIS satellite will research how mankind could potentially grow food in outer space.

One of the key challenges of this project was the high temperature sensitivity of the sensors, which had to be transported at a constant 20 degrees Celsius. This was achieved by an “Enviro-active-cool-container”, which served as a transport container. For the air route between Germany and the US, Carousel commissioned all the air-connect services and project managed the whole movement to ensure the satellite arrived at the right time, in the right condition.

This is one of many specialist, time-critical projects completed by service-logistics specialist Carousel on behalf of its client DLR, supporting with its customer promise for delivering expert scientific services and products.
